This week in class we got to have our first live model experience. It wasn't as awkward as everyone was asking me about. It was just like how I expected it it would be, which is more focused, and trying to achieve a good gesture drawing. My mood would change from having fun, being excited about the pose, to frustrated. We did a lot of different positions and times, it gave me a great sense of how to make a fast economic drawing of the human form.
Seeing some of my drawings had some good and bad variations of the human proportions. This is something that I hope to improve on. Amy did announce that this is a common issue that is a struggle for most artists. It was fun to see how some of my peers where coming along. It was refreshing to see that some of there interpretations, and styles looked on paper. it's comforting to know that I am surrounded with peers who are successful at something that I would like to achieve myself. I am already looking forward to our next live model drawing day. Amy and I discussed how my fast gesture marks were a bit strong and fast. Next time I am hoping to work on that and making sure my human proportions are accurate.
We also got our skeletons. I had no idea how long it took to clean all the clay off of it. It was nice to get familiar with the clay and how I will be applying it. Once Amy explained all the latin names of the spinal column, she showed us how to navigate through our atlas'. We were assigned to start getting familiar with the muscles and to work our way down the spine. I am slightly intimidating to start but I know that having this background knowledge will help so much with my drawings. I am looking forward to what this week will bring. Hopefully I can produce a gesture drawing that shows improvements in the areas I want to improve on. Secondly, I hope to control the clay, and grasp working with the skeleton.
